Modalities/Treatment Approach

Art Therapy

Art and art-making engage all of our senses. Art therapy uses the sensory, kinesthetic, perceptual, affective, symbolic, cognitive, and creative processes of art-making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages.  It is based on the belief that the properties involved in artistic self-expression help people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.

EMDR

EMDR is a psychotherapy approach pioneered by Francine Shapiro. It contains elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies.  EMDR can be quite effective in trauma treatment.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. We offer the psychotherapy portion of the experience and partner with Journey Clinical and their medical team for medical care. This includes determining eligibility for safe Ketamine use, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine, and monitoring outcomes. Click below for more information about this treatment approach.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a natural treatment modality for children. It also engages all the senses and is fun. Play therapy can include sand tray therapy, free play, or therapist-directed play depending on treatment goals and a child’s needs. Our Arlington location has a large movement space to help in the assessment and use of sensory-based coping resources. This space allows both gross and fine motor movement and rhythmic play.

Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC)

CFRCs are trained in the culture of responders in order to better understand responders and their unique treatment needs.  CFRCs have been exposed to and are aware of the high risk and traumatic situations that are experienced directly and indirectly by responders. CFRCs are equipped to process these situations to help responders find meaning, balance and healing in their lives that can strengthen job performance and help them be more present in their daily lives.
